BOOMBOX HISTORY

"GOLDEN AGE 80-85's"

(Histoire du boombox en français)

The collection « BOOMBOX HISTORY - Golden Age 80-85 » started in 2009, from a GAC Original’s idea. This is a 23-unique art pieces either for their support or the techniques.
This amazing exhibition presents a GHETTO-BLASTER/BOOMBOX collection which represents one of the biggest HIP HOP symbol.

After months of research, a period occurred to be considered by collectors as the Golden Age for those historical pieces: the early eighties, from 1980 to 1985.
Three years of labour followed to find and buy the wanted models all around the world to actually build this collection. Most of those pieces became rare, some are nowhere to be found.
Boomboxes were untrusted to 15 French artists (graffers, illustrators, jewelers, … ), who expressed their inspirations around the eighties in their own style to turn each boombox into a masterpiece.

Artists such as:
THIA ONE - ANJUNA BéA - NESBY - LOOP - DAN23 - BABS - TORE - BROK HARDCORE -
BERTHET ONE - MR.M - WANDY - ARY.P - NOE TWO - DRONE - ZENOY
have contributed to this exhibition.

This unique collection is a tribute to the birth of the Hip Hop movement in France ( 33 years ago), it’s a way to share our culture… .
A part of the collection has been presented during the first « BOOMBOX BLOCK PARTY » in France. Dj’s and artists who performed were on air, so all radios on the right channel around the perimeter played the event live.
More than just an exhibition, it was an exclusive performance. It made sense to actually use boomboxes as it was back in the day to spread the music and make people dance!!!
It brought a new dimension to the exhibition and electrified the audience.

Presented by the XULY.BëT designer in November 2009, then in June 2012 during the
«Fête de la musique», the collection is now complete.
